As we find ourselves welcoming in a new year, imagine the possibilities and opportunities. A new year is like a second chance, giving permission to move forward with the knowledge of the mistakes from the year prior. I am not sure if we should call them failed attempts or mistakes at all, only because they did not yield the desired results. They were valid, legitimate attempts and the results were that we found out what worked and what didn’t. By removing the evidence that we tried, we would also remove our chances to review that evidence and to learn from it. One could see that evidence as an incentive to keep trying.
The philosopher Lao Tzu always inspires me, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.” If we take small steps to success, together they can add up to thousands. But if we had chosen not to take that first step and stopped at every obstacle along the way we may have never reached our destination. There may be frustrations and uncertainties but with each step they were crushed. With each step, we focus on our destination and realize success is in our sight.
